Ashley Iris Gill
Cinematographer | Narrative & Documentary
Ashley came to cinematography from a love of photography and writing – she wanted a medium that could bridge “what people were reading and what I envisioned them to kind of see.” Initially drawn to directing, she pivoted behind the camera after facing resistance on set:
“I got frustrated with male shooters not wanting to listen to me as a female director… it was kind of a ‘f.u.’ moment for me to become a cinematographer.”
Visual Style:
Ashley’s work is defined by its organic warmth and intuitive handheld energy. Her signature is a calm, controlled movement that still feels alive:
“I shoot a lot of handheld but it doesn’t feel too chaotic… even if I’m just standing there handheld, it looks pretty.”
She favours setups that let her react quickly to the moment – building her kit around run‑and‑gun flexibility.
